Contents
Cephalexin monohydrate
Indications/Uses
Infection of soft tissue, skin, bone & joint, GUT, resp tract.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 1-4 g daily in divided doses. Childn 25-50 mg/kg daily in 4 divided doses.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins.
Special Precautions
Penicillin sensitivity, renal impairment.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances, allergic reactions. Rarely, neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, eosinophilia, erythema multiforme, pseudomembranous colitis, anaphylaxis.
Drug Interactions
Bacteriostatic antibiotics may reduce cephalosporin effectiveness. Plasma level & toxicity increased by probenecid.
