Escitalopram
Indications/Uses
Major depressive disorder, panic disorder w/ or w/o agoraphobia, social & generalised anxiety disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to escitalopram or citalopram. Concomitant use w/ MAOIs & pimozide. Known QT interval prolongation or congenital long QT syndrome. Drugs that prolong QT interval.
Special Precautions
Hyponatremia in elderly, activation of mania/hypomania, seizures, serotonin syndrome or NMS-like reactions, clinical worsening and suicide risk. May interfere w/ cognitive & motor performance.
Adverse Reactions
Decreased appetite, restlessness, decreased libido, insomnia, somnolence, dizziness, male ejaculation, diarrhoea, constipation, sweating, fatigue.
Drug Interactions
Serotonergic drugs, triptans, CNS drugs, alcohol, MAOIs, NSAIDs, aspirin, warfarin, cimetidine, lithium, pimozide, sumatriptan, carbamazepine, ketoconazole, drugs metabolized by CYP450 2D6, metoprolol. St. John's wort.
