Dobutamine HCl
Indications/Uses
Short-term treatment of patients w/ cardiac decompensation.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Increase cardiac output 2.5-10 mcg/kg/min IV, up to 40 mcg/kg/min if necessary (rare occasions). Dose adjustment depends on heart rate & rhythm, BP & diuresis.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Obstructive cardiomyopathy. Idiopathic hypertrophic sub-aortic stenosis.
Special Precautions
Sulfite sensitivity in asthmatic patient. Not to be mixed w/ alkaline soln. Not to be used in conjunction w/ other agents or diluents containing Na bisulfite & ethanol. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn. Increased pulmonary wedge pressure in infants <1 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, headache, palpitation, dyspnea & chest pain.
Drug Interactions
Concomitant use w/ nitroprusside, β-adrenoreceptor blocking agents.
