Cefoperazone 500 mg, sulbactam 500 mg
Indications/Uses
URTI & lower resp tract infections & UTI, peritonitis, cholecystitis, cholangitis, septicemia, skin & soft tissue infections, bone & joint infections, pelvic inflammatory disease, endometritis, gonorrhea & other genital infections.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IM/IV Adult 2-4 g daily every 12 hr in equally divided doses. Severe or refractory infection May be increased up to 8 g daily every 12 hr in equally divided doses. Childn 40-80 mg/kg daily every 6-12 hr in equally divided doses. Severe or refractory infection May be increased up to 160 mg/kg daily in 2-4 equally divided doses.
Contraindications
Allergy to penicillin, cephalosporin, cefoperazone or sulbactam.
Special Precautions
Not to be used in hypersensitive patients. Discontinue & institute appropriate therapy if skin rash, irritation or edema occurs. Penicillin-sensitive patients. Vit K deficiency; overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms in prolonged use. Patients w/ poor diet, malabsorption states (eg, cystic fibrosis), on prolonged IV alimentation regimens & receiving anticoagulant. Monitor prothrombin time & administer exogenous vit K. Periodically check for organ system dysfunction including renal, hepatic & hematopoietic systems during extended therapy. Severe biliary obstruction & hepatic disease. Renal impairment. Pregnancy & lactation. Premature infants or neonates.
Adverse Reactions
Anaphylactoid reaction, shock; nausea & vomiting, loose stools, pseudomembranous colitis; maculopapular rash, urticaria; hypotension, vasculitis; slightly decreased neutrophils, reversible neutropenia, +ve direct Coombs' test, decreased Hb or hematocrit, transient eosinophilia & thrombocytopenia, hypoprothrombinemia, leucopenia; pruritus, SJS; hematuria; headache, fever, inj site pain & chills; transient elevations of SGOT, SGPT, alkaline phosphatase & bilirubin; transient pain, phlebitis.
Drug Interactions
Concomitant use w/ alcoholic beverages, ethanol. False +ve reaction for urine glucose test.
