Ibuprofen
Indications/Uses
Inflammatory diseases & rheumatoid disorders including juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), mild to moderate pain, fever (excluding those caused by dengue virus), dysmenorrhea, OA.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Inflammatory disease 400-800 mg/dose tid-qid. Max: 3.2 g/day. Analgesia/pain/fever/dysmenorrhea 200-400 mg/dose every 4-6 hr. Max daily dose: 1.2 g. Daily doses ≤2.4 g may be used. Migraine 400 mg at onset of symptoms. Max: 400 mg/24 hr.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. History of asthma, urticaria or allergic-type reaction to aspirin or other NSAIDs; aspirin triad (eg, bronchial asthma, aspirin intolerance, rhinitis); perioperative pain in the setting of CABG surgery.
Special Precautions
Contraindicated in patients w/ hypersensitivity or those w/ asthma, rhinitis, angioedema or urticaria in response to aspirin or other NSAIDs; active or history of recurrent GI bleeding or peptic ulceration; severe hepatic & renal failure; dengue hemorrhagic fever. Discontinue in case of SJS; rash or symptoms similar to flu. Increased risk of serious GI adverse events, & CV thrombotic events, MI & stroke. Patients w/ history of cardiac decompensation or renal function impairment; HTN; intrinsic coagulation disorders or on anticoagulant therapy; history of GI disease (bleeding or ulcers). Concurrent therapy w/ aspirin, anticoagulants &/or corticosteroids; smoking; ethanol. Pregnancy (especially 3rd trimester) & lactation (especially women w/ hypertensive disorders of pregnancy or preexisting renal disease). Elderly or debilitated patients.
Adverse Reactions
Edema; dizziness, headache, nervousness; itching, rash; fluid retention; abdominal pain/cramps/distress, decreased appetite, constipation, diarrhea, dyspepsia, epigastric pain, heartburn, nausea, vomiting; tinnitus.
Drug Interactions
Concomitant use w/ floctafenine, nasal & systemic ketorolac, NSAIDs (COX-2 inhibitor), omacetaxine.
