Purified tetanus toxoid

Indications/Uses

Active immunization & prevention of neonatal tetanus by immunizing women of childbearing age.

Dosage/Direction for Use

Primary immunization 2 doses of 0.5 mL IM/SC at least 4 wk apart followed by 3rd dose 6 mth after 2nd dose. Maintenance immunization of childbearing women Recommended dose: 5 doses. 4th dose should be given at least 1 yr after 3rd dose, & 5th dose at least 1 yr after 4th dose.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity. Severe reactions to a previous dose of tetanus toxoid. Defer immunization in cases of febrile illness or acute infection.
