Levocetirizine diHCl
Indications/Uses
Symptomatic treatment of allergic conditions eg, seasonal (including ocular symptoms), perennial, & persistent allergic rhinitis; chronic urticaria.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult, adolescent & childn 6 to ≥12 yr 5 mg once daily in the evening. Childn 2-6 yr 2.5 mg (as 2 intakes of 1.25 mg). Patients w/ renal impairment CrCl 50-79 mL/min 5 mg once daily, 30-49 mL/min 5 mg every other day, 10-29 mL/min 5 mg every 3 days.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Take in the evening. Swallow whole w/ liqd.
Contraindications
History of hypersensitivity to levocetirizine, cetirizine, hydroxyzine, or any piperazine derivative. Severe renal impairment (CrCl <10 mL/min) & patients undergoing hemodialysis.
Special Precautions
Avoid concomitant use w/ alcohol. Concomitant use w/ CNS suppressants eg, benzodiazepines & antidepressants. May increase the risk of urinary retention. May cause blurred vision, confusion & dysuria. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Hepatic & renal impairment. Not to be used in pregnancy (1st trimester) & lactation. Childn <2 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, somnolence; dry mouth, abdominal pain; fatigue, asthenia.
Drug Interactions
May enhance effect of CNS suppressants or ethyl alcohol. Increased exposure w/ ritonavir. May decrease clearance w/ theophylline.
