May be associated w/ increased risk of
Clostridium difficle-associated diarrhoea, especially in hospitalised patients. Increased bone fracture risk in patients receiving high-, multiple daily doses & during long-term therapy (ie, ≥1 yr). Concomitant use w/ methotrexate; may consider temporary w/drawal of therapy during high-dose methotrexate administration. Exclude possibility of malignancy prior to treatment if gastric ulcer was suspected. Monitor Mg levels prior to treatment & periodically during prolonged treatment or concomitant intake w/ digoxin or hypomagnesaemia-causing drugs (eg, diuretics). Cutaneous lupus erythematosus (CLE) & SLE as both new onset & an exacerbation of existing autoimmune disease; avoid administration longer than medically indicated; discontinue use upon occurrence of signs or symptoms consistent w/ CLE or SLE.
