Vitamin D.
Description
Each tablet contains 20 micrograms of colecalciferol which is equivalent to 800 IU of Vitamin D.
Colecalciferol is an oral Vitamin D supplement.
Excipients/Inactive Ingredients: Maltodextrin, microcrystalline cellulose, silicon dioxide, stearic acid, magnesium stearate, sucrose, acacia, corn starch, medium chain triglycerides, dl-alpha tocopherol.
Indications/Uses
Helps maintain bone density.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adults and the elderly: One tablet to be taken once or twice a day.
Use in children: Osteomed are not suitable for children.
If the patient forgot to take a dose, take it as soon as the patient remember unless it is almost time to take the next dose. Do not take a double dose.
Overdosage
Overdose is likely to occur if doses in excess of those recommended are taken and/or for prolonged periods. If the patient considers that he/she might have taken an overdosage, the patient should consult a physician.
Contraindications
Hypersensitive to any of the ingredients. History of high levels of Vitamin D; bone tumours; elevated blood calcium levels; have an abnormal metabolic sensitivity to Vitamin D.
Special Precautions
Do not exceed the stated dose.
Adverse Reactions
Vitamin D toxicity causes disturbances of calcium metabolism leading to calcium deposits forming in soft tissue including the lungs and kidneys. Brain and circulatory damage can also occur especially in infants. In infants showing increased Vitamin D sensitivity there is special risk of elevated blood calcium levels.
Symptoms of elevated blood calcium levels include anorexia, nausea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, muscle weakness, thirst, increased urine production, drowsiness, confusion, calcium deposits in the kidneys and in severe cases heartbeat disturbances, coma and heart failure.
Drug Interactions
The following medicines increase the activity of Osteomed Tablets: Certain diuretics, calcium supplements, phosphate supplements.
The following medicines decrease the activity of Osteomed Tablets: Certain antiepileptics, some antibiotics especially treatments for tuberculosis, certain steroids such as oral contraceptives and steroids used for the treatment of inflammation.
