Description
Each gram of Oramedy paste provides 1mg (0.1%) triamcinolone acetonide in emollient dental paste.
Action
Triamcinolone acetonide is a synthetic corticosteroid which possess anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and antiallergic action. The emollient dental paste acts as an adhesive vehicle for applying the active medication to the oral tissues. The vehicle provides a protective covering which may serve to temporarily reduce the pain associated with oral irritation.
Indications/Uses
Oramedy is indicated for the treatment of chronic exfoliative gingivitis, obstinate stomatitis and glossitis with erosive and ulcerative lesions. Oramedy is indicated for adjunctive treatment and for the temporary relief of symptoms associated with oral inflammatory lesions and ulcerative lesions resulting from trauma.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Apply a small dab to the lesion once to several times a day.
Contraindications
This preparation is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to any of its components.
The preparation is contraindicated in patients who have any of the following disease: tuberculous viral or suppurative infections of the mouth or throat, syphilis, varicella, mycosis, cutaneous bacterial infection, rosacea, perioral dermatitis, gingivitis caused by deficiency of vitamin C.
Special Precautions
Visual disturbance: Visual disturbance may be reported with systemic and topical corticosteroid use. If a patient with symptoms such as blurred vision or other visual disturbances, the patient should be considered for referral to an ophthalmologist for evaluation of possible causes which may include cataract, glaucoma or rare diseases such as central serious chorioretinopathy (CSCR) which have been reported after use of systemic and topical corticosteroids.
General Precautions: Patients with oral infections should not be treated with this preparation; however, in an unavoidable case, the use of an appropriate antifungal or antibacterial (systemic) agent should precede or be combined with the corticosteroid.
After application, do not eat and drink immediately.
Attempting to spread this preparation may result in a granular, gritty sensation.
Do not use for ophthalmic use.
Use in Children: Prolonged administration may interfere with the growth and development of infants and children.
Use in the Elderly: Prolonged administration may cause following disease in the old: infection, diabetes, osteoporosis, hypertension, cataract, glaucoma.
Use In Pregnancy & Lactation
Usage in Pregnancy: Safe use of this preparation during pregnancy has not been established with respect to possible adverse reactions upon fetal development; therefore, it should not be used in women of childbearing potential and particularly during early pregnancy unless, in the judgement of the physician or dentist, the potential benefits outweigh the possible hazards.
Adverse Reactions
Oral infections: In the presence of infections in the oral cavity, the use of an appropriate antifungal or antibacterial agent should be instituted. If a favorable response does not occur promptly, the corticosteroid should be discontinued.
Hypersensitivity: This preparation should be discontinued in the presence of hypersensitivity to it.
Usage over a long period of time: This preparation may cause the following diseases when it is used over a long period of time: atopic dermatitis, telangiectasia, striae, steroidal acne, perioral dermatitis, hypertrichosis.
Vision: blurred.

Keep tube tightly closed.
