Triamcinolone acetonide
Indications/Uses
Chronic exfoliative gingivitis, obstinate stomatitis & glossitis w/ erosive & ulcerative lesions. Adjunctive treatment & temporary relief of symptoms associated w/ oral inflammatory & ulcerative lesions resulting from trauma.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Apply a small dab to the lesion once to several times daily.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Patients w/ TB, viral or suppurative infections of the mouth or throat, syphilis, varicella, mycosis, cutaneous bacterial infection, rosacea, perioral dermatitis, gingivitis caused by vit C deficiency.
Special Precautions
Consider referral to an ophthalmologist if patient presents symptoms eg, blurred vision or other visual disturbances; risk of central serous chorioretinopathy. Patients w/ oral infections. Do not eat & drink immediately after application. May result in a granular, gritty sensation upon attempting to spread this prep. Not for ophth use. Women of childbearing potential. Pregnancy. Prolonged use in infant & childn (may interfere w/ growth & development), & the elderly (may cause infection, diabetes, osteoporosis, HTN, cataract, glaucoma).
Adverse Reactions
Hypersensitivity. Oral infections. Atopic dermatitis, telangiectasia, striae, steroidal acne, perioral dermatitis & hypertrichosis in long-term treatment use. Blurred vision.
