Indications/Uses
Diagnostic liver MRI for the detection of focal liver lesions in patients w/ known or suspected primary liver cancer or metastatic disease; brain & spine MRI where it improves detection of lesions & provides diagnostic information additional to that obtained w/ unenhanced MRI; breast MRI for the detection of malignant lesions in patients where breast cancer is known or suspected on the basis of previous mammography or ultrasound results. Contrast-enhanced MR-angiography where it improves the diagnostic accuracy for detecting clinically significant steno-occlusive vascular disease in patients w/ suspected or known vascular disease of the abdominal or peripheral arteries.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Liver MRI IV bolus or slow inj (10 mL/min) 0.05 mmol/kg (0.1 mL/kg). MRA IV bolus 0.1 mmol/kg (0.2 mL/kg). Breast MRI IV 0.1 mmol/kg (0.2 mL/kg). Adult & childn >2 yr Brain & spine MRI IV bolus or slow inj (10 mL/min) 0.1 mmol/kg (0.2 mL/kg).
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. History of allergic or AR to other gadolinium chelates.
Special Precautions
Closely supervise patients for 15 min following inj. Patients w/ CV disease; suffering from epilepsy or brain lesions; history of asthma or other allergic disorders. Use of diagnostic contrast media should be restricted to hospitals/clinics staffed for intensive care emergencies & where CPR equipment is readily available. Do not use in patients w/ history of sensitivity to benzyl alcohol. As w/ other other gadolinium-chelates, contrast-enhanced MRI should not be performed w/in 7 hr of MultiHance-enhanced MRI exam. Avoid local extravasation during IV administration. Use the lowest effective dose & carefully perform benefit risk assessment before administering repeated doses. Screen patients for renal dysfunction by obtaining lab tests prior to administration. Avoid in patients w/ severe renal impairment (GFR <30 mL/min/1.73m2) & peri-op liver transplantation. Pregnancy & lactation. Not recommended in childn <2 yr (brain & spine MRI); <18 yr (liver & breast MRI or MRA). Elderly ≥65 yr.

Headache; nausea; vomiting (childn).
