Tramadol HCl
Indications/Uses
Severe acute & chronic pain; diagnostic measures & surgical pain.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & adolescents >14 yr Cap 1 cap as single dose. Inj 1 amp by IV/IV infusion/IM/SC inj. Max: 400 mg/day.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Acute intoxication w/ alcohol, hypnotics, analgesics or other CNS-acting drugs. Increased reactivity to opioids. Pregnancy. Inj Resp depression, excessive bronchial secretion, acute alcoholism, head injuries & increased intracranial pressure. Not to be given during an attack of bronchial asthma or heart failure secondary to chronic lung disease.
Special Precautions
Reduce dose in patients w/ hypothyroidism, adrenocortical insufficiency, impaired kidney/liver function, prostatic hypertrophy or shock. Obstructive bowel disorders, myasthenia gravis. May affect ability to drive or operate machinery. Lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Sweating, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth & fatigue. Very rarely, hypoglycaemia (patients w/ diabetes or renal insufficiency, elderly). Inj Constipation, drowsiness, confusion, facial flushing, bradycardia, palpitations, orthostatic hypotension, hypothermia, restlessness, mood changes, miosis, raised intracranial pressure.
Drug Interactions
May intensify sedative effects w/ tranquilizers, hypnotics. Avoid concurrent administration of MAOIs. Alcohol.
