Use In Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy: Use of drugs that act on the renin-angiotensin system during the second and third trimester of pregnancy reduces fetal renal function and increases feral and neonatal morbidity and death. Resulting oligohydramnios can be associated with fetal lung hypoplasia and skeletal deformations. Potential neonatal adverse effects include skull hypoplasia, anuria, hypotension, renal failure, and death. When pregnancy is detected, discontinue Losartan Potassium Tablets as soon as possible.
When used in pregnancy during the second and third trimesters, drugs that act directly on the renin-angiotensin system can cause injury and even death to the developing fetus. When pregnancy is detected, Losartan potassium Tablets should be discontinued as soon as possible.
Lactation: It is not known whether losartan is excreted in human milk. Because many drugs are excreted in human milk and because of the potential for adverse effects on the nursing infant, a decision should be made whether to discontinue nursing or discontinue the drug, taking into account the importance of the drug to the mother.
