Adult drops Adult & childn >6 yr Instill 1-2 drop bd-tds into each nostril. Duration of treatment: 5-7 days. Children drops Childn 1-6 yr 1-2 drop bd-tds daily into each nostril. Duration of treatment: 5-7 days. Baby drops5 wk to 1 yr 1-2 drop bd-tds into each nostril. Duration of treatment: 5-7 days. Newborn to 4 wk 1 drop bd-tds into each nostril. Duration of treatment: 5-7 days.
Rhinitis sicca. Contains benzalkonium Cl as preservative, must not be used in known hypersensitivity to this substance. Potential increasing BP in patients treated w/ MAOIs, increased IOP especially narrow-angle glaucoma, severe CV disease (eg, CHD, HTN), phaeochromocytoma, metabolic disorders (eg, hyperthyroidism, DM, porphyria), hyperplasia of the prostate.
Effect may be attenuated w/ permanent use. Abuse may cause mucosal atrophy & reactive hyperaemia w/ rhinitis medicamentosa. Prolonged use may cause damage to the mucosal epithelium w/ inhibition of ciliary activity. Should only be used in pregnancy & lactation after carefully weighing the risk-to-benefit ratio, recommended dosage should not be exceeded.
