Heparinoids - topical

Patient Medicine Information
Why do I need this medicine?
Heparinoids help to reduce formation of blood clots when applied to local areas. This medicine relieves pain and at the same time promotes healing of vein inflammation, bruising, and haematomas (pooling of blood outside the blood vessels).
How do I use this medicine?
Apply Heparinoids exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not use more or less than instructed by your doctor.

This medicine is available as a cream or gel.

If you are using the cream or gel, follow these steps:
  1. Wash your hands.
  2. Clean and dry the affected area before application.
  3. Apply a thin layer using the gel or massage the cream gently on the skin until it disappears. Do not cover, wrap or bandage the area unless instructed by the doctor.
  4. Wash your hands after using.
  5. Replace the cap of the tube.
Avoid any contact with this medicine on your eyes. If an accidental contact occurs, rinse it immediately with water. Alert your doctor if you start to have any problems with your eyes.
What should I do if I have forgotten to use this medicine?
Apply the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.

DO NOT double a dose to make up for a missed dose.

If you often forget to apply your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.
When should I not use this medicine?
Do not apply Heparinoids on the skin that is broken or wounded and on or near sensitive areas (e.g. mouth, genitals).
What should I take note of while using this medicine?
Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

To avoid burns, do not smoke or go near naked flames. Fabrics (e.g. dressing, clothing, bedding) that have been in contact with this medicine must be washed to reduce product build-up or risk of any serious fire hazards.

Be sure to check with your doctor or pharmacist before giving Heparinoids to a child. Children may be more sensitive to the side effects.
What side effects could I experience?
Heparinoids may cause redness and irritation of the skin.

If you develop rashes, breathlessness, swollen mouth or eyes, stop using this medicine and inform your doctor immediately. These could be signs of an allergic reaction.

Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Can I use this with other medicines?
Inform your doctor if you are using any other creams, gels, ointments, or other medicines in the affected area.

Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking or using any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements, and medicines that you buy without a prescription.

Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
