Usual course of therapy: 7 days (range of 5-10 days).
Adult Most infections 250 mg bd.
UTI 125 mg bd.
Mild to moderate lower resp tract infections eg, bronchitis 250 mg bd.
More severe lower resp tract infections or if pneumonia is suspected 500 mg bd.
Pyelonephritis 250 mg bd.
Uncomplicated gonorrhoea 1 g as single dose. Sequential therapy:
Pneumonia Cefuroxime 1.5 g bd-tds (IV/IM) for 48-72 hr, followed by Axetine 500 mg bd orally for 7-10 days.
Acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis Cefuroxime 750 mg bd-tds (IV/IM) for 48-72 hr, followed by Axetine 500 mg bd orally 5-10 days.
Childn Most infections 125 mg bd up to a max of 250 mg daily.
Childn ≥2 yr w/ otitis media or more severe infections 250 mg bd up to a max of 500 mg daily.
