Indications/Uses
Functional symptoms of benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH). Adjuvant treatment to a catheter in 1st episode of acute urinary retention related to BPH.

Dosage/Direction for Use
BPH 1 tab once daily. Adjuvant treatment to a catheter in the 1st episode of acute urinary retention related to BPH 1 tab once daily from the 1st day of catheterization onwards for 3-4 days.

Overdosage
View Apo-Alfuzosin overdosage for action to be taken in the event of an overdose.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take after the same meal each day. Swallow whole, do not crunch/crush/chew/grind/pound to powder.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Postural hypotension; liver failure; severe kidney failure (CrCl <30 mL/min). In combination w/ potent CYP3A4 inhibitors (eg, ketoconazole, ritonavir, itraconazole).

Special Precautions
Patients w/ marked hypotension w/ another α1-blocker; coronary disease. Discontinue if angina pectoris recurs or worsens. Patients w/ acquired or congenital QT prolongation or those taking medications that prolong QT interval. Intraoperative floppy iris syndrome. May affect ability to drive & use machines. Not indicated nor recommended for use in women. Pregnancy & lactation. Elderly.

Adverse Reactions
Lightheadedness, dizziness, faintness, headache; tachycardia, palpitations, postural hypotension, syncope; nausea, abdominal pain; asthenia.

Drug Interactions
Increased blood levels & exposure w/ potent CYP3A4 inhibitors (eg, ketoconazole, itraconazole & ritonavir). Caution w/ medications metabolized by CYP3A4 hepatic enzyme isoform (eg, modern α1-blockers), herbal remedies (St. John's wort, milk thistle) & grapefruit juice. Enhanced hypotensive effect & risk of severe postural hypotension w/ antihypertensives α-receptor blockers (prazosin, trimazosin, urapidil). Increased risk of conc & undesirable effects w/ clarithromycin, erythromycin. Risk of postural hypotension (particularly in elderly) w/ phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors (eg, sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil). Increased risk of hypotension (particularly postural) w/ nitrates, nitrites & related drugs (eg, isosorbide dinitrate, isosorbide linsidomine, molsidomine, nicorandil, nitroglycerin).
