Contents
Per 625 mg FC tab Amoxicillin trihydrate 500 mg, clavulanate K 125 mg
Indications/Uses
Tonsillitis, sinusitis, otitis media; acute & chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, thoracic empyema, lung abscess; boils & abscesses, cellulitis, wound infection, intra-abdominal sepsis; cystitis, urethritis, nephropyelitis, septic abortion, puerperal sepsis, pelvic infection, chancroid, gonorrhoea; osteomyelitis; septicaemia; peritonitis. Surgical prophylaxis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals for better absorption & to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to penicillin. Infectious mononucleosis. Previous history of Amocla or any penicillin-associated cholestatic jaundice/hepatic dysfunction.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity to penicillins or cephems; discontinue & institute appropriate alternative therapy if allergic reaction occurs. Patients who or whose family have a tendency to show allergic symptoms eg, bronchial asthma, rashes, urticaria. Vit K deficiency may occur in orally malnutritioned or parenterally nutritioned patients, elderly & those w/ bad systemic condition. Long term treatment may result in nonsusceptible organisms overgrowth; carefully observe for >14 days treatment. Avoid use in case that glandular fever is worried. Severe hepatic dysfunction; evidence of hepatic failure; risk of serious & usually reversible cholestatic jaundice. Moderate or severe renal dysfunction. Pregnancy; not to be administered during 1st trimester. Lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Diarrhoea, pseudomembranous colitis, indigestion, nausea & vomiting; hepatitis & cholestatic jaundice (more frequently in adult, elderly & male). SJS, TEN.
Drug Interactions
Decreased renal excretion, increased & prolonged blood levels of amoxicillin w/ probenecid. Increased incidence of rashes w/ allopurinol & ampicillin. Not to be co-admimistered w/ disulfiram. May prolong bleeding & prothrombin time. May reduce effect of OCs. May result in false +ve reactions when testing for presence of glucose in urine using clinitest, benedict or fehling's soln.
