Indications/Uses
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Initially 40 mg once daily. May increase to 80 mg in patients who do not achieve a serum uric acid of <6 mg/dL. Usual dose: 40-80 mg once daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/o regard to antacid use.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Azathioprine, mercaptopurine or theophylline.
Special Precautions
Increased gout flares. Monitor signs & symptoms of MI & stroke. Elevations in liver enzymes. Not recommended in patients w/ increased rate of urate formation. Severe renal & hepatic impairment. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
Dizziness, liver function abnormalities, nausea, arthralgia & rash.
Drug Interactions
May increase plasma conc of mercaptopurine & azathioprine. May alter metabolism of theophylline.
