Indications/Uses
Acute gout, inflammatory disease of the joints & OA.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Chronic pain 60-90 mg daily. Acute pain 120 mg daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Active peptic ulceration or active GI bleeding. Patients who have experienced bronchospasms, acute rhinitis, nasal polyps, angioneurotic edema, urticaria, or allergic-type reactions after taking ASA or NSAIDs including COX-2 inhibitors. Severe hepatic dysfunction (serum albumin <25 g/L or Child-Pugh score 10≥10). Estimated renal CrCl <30 mL/min. Inflammatory bowel disease. CHF (NYHA II-IV). Patients w/ HTN whose BP has not been adequately controlled. Established ischemic heart disease, peripheral arterial disease &/or cerebrovascular disease. Childn & adolescents <16 yr.
Special Precautions
Not to be given in patients w/ history of stroke (CVA); heart attack (MI); CABG; uncontrolled HTN; CHF, NYHA II-IV. Patients w/ allergy to NSAIDs & those w/ asthma. Patients w/ ischemic heart disease & risk factors for heart disease; HTN; hyperlipidemia, diabetes, smoking & patients w/ peripheral arterial disease. Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration of treatment in patients w/ CV risk. Discontinue use if appearance of skin rash & signs of hypersensitivity occurs. Potential GI (gastric & liver) & renal toxicities. Patients w/ severe heart failure & those w/ active peptic ulcer. Do not take w/ any other NSAIDs, eg, ibuprofen, diclofenac or pain-relieving doses of aspirin. Renal & hepatic impairment. Not recommended in women attempting to conceive. Contraindicated in pregnancy. Lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, rashes, blurred vision, difficulty in sleeping (insomnia), muscle cramps, fatigue, disturbances of the gut eg, diarrhea, constipation, nausea, vomiting or abdominal pain, wt gain, ulceration of the stomach or intestine, cold or flu-like symptoms, dizziness, excessive fluid retention in the body tissues, resulting in swelling (edema), nosebleed (epistaxis), difficulty in breathing (dyspnea), weakness or loss of strength (asthenia), high BP (HTN), chest pain, anxiety & liver or kidney disorders.
