Per tab Hydrotalcite 282 mg, Mg(OH)2 85 mg, dimethicone 25 mg
Indications/Uses
Symptomatic relief of hyperacidity & flatulence associated w/ diagnosis of peptic ulcer, gastritis, gastroesophageal reflux esophagitis, hyperacidity, hiatal hernia & dyspeptic complaints.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 2-4 chewable tab or as directed by a physician.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take 1-2 hr after meals & at bedtime. Tab should be chewed.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Severe renal impairment & abdominal pain.
Special Precautions
Increased risk of phosphate depletion syndrome w/ hypercalciuria & osteomalacia or Al ion-induced deterioration in dementia syndrome in patients receiving chronic renal dialysis. Caution in individuals w/ severe constipation, especially elderly or following low-Na diet. Antacids should not be administered in combination w/ tetracyclines, anticholinergics, cimetidine, INH, triazole antifungal Fe salts, carbenoxolone, digitoxin, quinidine, phenobarb, warfarin, phenindione, captopril, corticosteroids, fluoroquinolones, H2 histamine receptor antagonists, hydantoins, ketoconazole, penicillamine, phenothiazines, salicylates, ticlopidine, levodopa, sulfonylureas, Na valproate & Na polystyrene sulfonate. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Diarrhea; nausea, constipation & development of phosphate depletion syndrome or formation of fecaliths in elderly w/ severe constipation.
Drug Interactions
May inhibit absorption of tetracyclines. Absorption of anticholinergics, cimetidine, INH, triazole, antifungal, Fe salts, carbenoxolone, digitoxin, quinidine, phenobarb may be delayed or reduced. May impair absorption of warfarin & phenindione. Decreased effect of benzodiazepines, captopril, corticosteroids, fluoroquinolones, H2 histamine receptor agonists, hydantoins, ketoconazole, penicillamine, phenothiazines, salicylates & ticlopidine. Increased adsorption of acetate salts. May cause metabolic acidosis in patients w/ renal failure w/ Na polystyrene sulfonate. Increased effect of levodopa, sulfonylureas & Na valproate.
