May trigger a skeletal muscle hypermetabolic state leading to high O
2 demand & malignant hyperthermia. Induced malignant hyperthermia to those w/ inherited ryanodine receptor mutations. Patients w/ latent & overt neuromuscular disease, particularly Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Early & aggressive intervention in patient w/ hyperkalemia & resistant arrhythmias are recommended; evaluate for latent neuromuscular disease. Increasing the conc during maintenance produces dose-dependent decreases in BP; excessive decreases in BP or resp depression may be corrected by decreasing the inspired conc. Seizures (rarely). Concomitant use of succinylcholine. Pregnancy & lactation.
