Levofloxacin hemihydrate
Indications/Uses
Community-acquired pneumonia, complicated UTI & skin & soft tissue infections.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Discontinue if the patient experiences tendon pain, inflammation or rupture. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn, adolescents.
Special Precautions
Epilepsy, history of CNS disorders, hepatic or renal impairment, G6PD deficiency, myasthenia gravis. Do not use in Staph aureus or MRSA infections. Maintain adequate fluid intake. Avoid exposure to UV light. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, dyspepsia; headache, dizziness & restlessness. Photosensitivity, anaphylaxis; tendon damage; transient increase in serum creatinine & BUN. False +ve glucose reactions in urine.
Drug Interactions
Al- or Mg-containing antacids; Ca, Fe & Zn salts; sucralfate, dairy products, enteral feeds, didanosine w/ Al & Mg ion buffering agents; fenbufen, opioid analgesics, papaveretum; azlocillin; zolmitriptan; antineoplastic & immunosuppressants; foscarnet; cimetidine & ranitidine; probenecid; xanthines eg, theophylline & caffeine.
