Indications/Uses
Postpartum hemorrhage due to uterine atony which has not responded to conventional methods of management.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IM Initially 250 mcg. Max: 2 mg in intervals of 15-90 min.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. History of asthma, acute pelvic inflammatory disease; active cardiac, pulmonary, hepatic & renal diseases. Active asthma.
Special Precautions
Hypotension, HTN, anemia, jaundice, diabetes or epilepsy, compromised (scarred) uteri; increased IOP. Monitor pyrexia & elevated BP & chorioamnionitis. Ped use.
Adverse Reactions
Vomiting, diarrhea, hyperpyrexia, flushing.
Drug Interactions
May augment activity of other oxytocic agents. Enhanced action by prior inj of hyperosmolar urea.
