Feracrylum.
Description
Feracrylum gel is a hemostatic, antimicrobial and hygroscopic agent.
COMPOSITION: Feracrylum 1% w/w, Water miscible base q.s.
Contents of water miscible base: Purified water BP, Propylene glycol BP, Carbopol 934 USP, triethanol amine BP, butylated hydroxy anisole BP.
Action
Feracrylum is soluble water and nonabsorbable in the systemic circulation. When feracrylum comes in contact with serum protein, it forms a thin whitish film that has a gel-like structure, which creates a physical barrier. This reduces oozing from the wound, thus exerting local hemostatic action, and protects the wound from contamination.
In addition to its hemostatic property, feracrylum also has the following features: A wide range of antimicrobial activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and pathogenic fungi.
Hygroscopic, thus maintaining a moist environment for the wound site conducive for rapid wound healing and helps in painless removal of the dressing.
Reduces serious oozing, without any toxicity, local irritation and is nonallergenic thus making it the most suitable topical wound protector.
May also help minimize the appearance of scars while preventing infection.
