Indications/Uses
Acute & chronic myocardial ischemia, angina pectoris, arrhythmia, chronic cardiac failure.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Tab Chronic myocardial ischemia, cardiac failure 2-3 tab tid. Angina pectoris, arrhythmia 2 tab tid. Soln Adult 50 kg 1-3 g/day. Childn & infant 50-100 mg/kg/day.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take w/ or immediately after meals.
Special Precautions
Not recommended in severely compromised renal function or in ESRD patients on dialysis. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Transient nausea & vomiting, abdominal cramps, diarrhea. Significant increase in platelet aggregation & hypertriglyceridemia in hemodialysis patients.
Drug Interactions
May increase effects of certain anticoagulants eg, acenocoumarol, warfarin & heparin. Decreased effectiveness of thyroid hormone. Reduced plasma levels w/ cephalosporins. Decreased serum carnitine in childn w/ anticonvulsants eg, phenobarb, phenytoin, carbamazepine. May increase urinary excretion w/ cisplatin. May increase urinary loss w/ ifosfamide. Reduced levels of acetyl carnitine in patients w/ neuropathy induced by nucleosides. May reduce side effects associated w/ IL-2 or nortriptyline. May improve liver & muscular side effects associated w/ isotretinoin in acne patients. May reduce nerve damage symptoms associated w/ paclitaxel use.
