Per 5 g Plantago ovata (isaphagula seed) 2.6 g, Plantago ovata (ispaghula husk) 110 mg, Senna alexandrina (Tinnevelly senna pods) (equiv to sennoside B 15 mg) 340-660 mg
Indications/Uses
Short-term use in case of occasional constipation.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >12 yr 1-2 sachet after evening meal. Max: 2 sachet/day.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Swallow whole w/ liqd (¼ L = 250 mL). Wait for 30 min-1 hr when taking other medications.
Contraindications
Abnormal stenosis in GIT, ileus, uncontrollable DM, acute inflammatory intestinal disease eg, Morbus Crohn, colitis ulcerosa, appendicitis, abdominal pain of unknown cause, severe dehydration w/ water & electrolyte losses. Childn <12 yr.
Special Precautions
May worsen bowel sluggishness in long-term use. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Spasmodic GI complaints (very rare). Water & electrolyte imbalance, K loss, albumin & blood in urine (long-term/chronic use).
Drug Interactions
Loss of K may potentiate effect of cardiac glycosides, influence the effect of antiarrhythmics & in chronic use of diuretics, cortisone, cortisone-like substances (adrenocortical steroids) & licorice roots. Delayed absorption of concurrently administered drugs from GIT into the blood stream. Insulin.
