Tacrolimus is used to treat moderate to severe eczema (red, itchy, and inflamed skin).
This medicine may also be used as a short-term treatment of psoriasis (a skin disorder characterized by thick, red patches of skin covered by thick, white or silvery scales) of the face, genitals, armpits, elbows, groin, and back of the knees.
This medicine may be used to treat other conditions as decided by your doctor.
Apply this medicine exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not apply more or less than instructed by your doctor.
How to use the ointment:
- Wash your hands.
- Apply thinly to affected areas.
- Rub gently and completely.
- Wash your hand after using,
Do not take a shower or a bath immediately after applying Tacrolimus.
Apply the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule. Do not apply more than what is instructed by the doctor to make up for the missed dose.
Do not use this medicine if you ever had an allergic reaction (rashes, breathlessness, swollen eyes) to Tacrolimus and certain antibiotics such as azithromycin, erythromycin, clarithromycin.
Inform your doctor if you have the following conditions:
- skin cancer
- skin barrier disorder
- inherited or acquired immunodeficiencies (failure of the immune system to protect the body from infection)
Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Be sure to check with your doctor or pharmacist before giving this medicine to a child.
Avoid contact with eyes or mouth. Rinse immediately with water if this medicine gets into your eyes or mouth. Alert your doctor if you start to have any problems with your eyes.
Do not use with occlusive dressing unless instructed by the doctor.
Do not apply on skin that is broken, infected or discharging fluid or pus.
Do not apply on large areas of the skin.
This medicine may cause any of the following side effects: burning sensation, skin reddening, and headaches.
Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Inform your doctor if you are using any other creams, ointments or other medicines on the affected area.
Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
Avoid alcohol.
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.
Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
