Co-amoxiclav (amoxicillin & clavulanic acid). Amoxicillin Na 1,000 mg, K clavulanate 200 mg
Indications/Uses
Severe ear, nose & throat infections, resp tract, skin & soft tissue (including dental infections), bone & joint, & intra-abdominal infections, UTI, genital organ infections (women) in adults & childn. Prevention of infections associated w/ major surgical procedures in adults & childn.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn ≥40 kg 1,000 mg/200 mg every 8 hr. Childn <40 kg aged ≥3 mth 25 mg/5 mg every 8 hr, <3 mth or <4 kg 25 mg/5 mg every 12 hr. During & after surgery Adult & childn ≥40kg 1,000 mg/200 mg before surgery. May be repeated if surgery takes >1 hr.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to amoxicillin, clavulanic acid or penicillin. History of severe allergic reaction to other antibiotics, liver problems or jaundice when taking antibiotic.
Special Precautions
Allergic reactions, convulsions & inflammation of large intestine. Patients w/ glandular fever, liver (perform liver function tests) or kidney problems, irregular urine output. Maintain adequate fluid intake. May affect results of blood or urine tests. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Skin rash, vasculitis, fever, joint pain, swollen glands in neck, armpit or groin, angioedema, collapse; inflammation of large intestine; thrush, diarrhoea.
Drug Interactions
May cause allergic skin reaction w/ allopurinol. Adjust dose in concomitant use w/ probenecid. Warfarin (perform blood tests). May affect action of methotrexate.
