Clopidogrel bisulfate

Indications/Uses

Reduction of atherosclerotic events (MI, stroke & vascular death) in patients w/ atherosclerosis documented by recent stroke, recent MI or established peripheral arterial disease. Patients w/ acute coronary syndrome (unstable angina/non-Q-wave MI).

Dosage/Direction for Use

Recommended dose: 75 mg once daily. Patients w/ acute coronary syndrome (unstable angina/non-Q-wave MI) Initiate w/ a single 300 mg loading dose & then continued at 75 mg once daily. Aspirin 75-325 mg once daily should be initiated & continued in combination w/ clopidogrel.

Overdosage

Administration

May be taken with or without food.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity. Active pathological bleeding eg, peptic ulcer or intracranial haemorrhage.

Special Precautions

Patients at risk of increased bleeding from trauma, surgery or other pathological conditions. Discontinue 5 days prior to an elective surgery. Unusual bleeding. Hepatic impairment. Pregnancy. Childn.

Adverse Reactions

Pruritus, rash, diarrhoea; intracranial hemorrhage; severe neutropaenia.

Drug Interactions

Potentiates effect of aspirin on collagen-induced platelet aggregation. Increased occult GI blood loss w/ NSAIDs. Concomitant use w/ warfarin.
