Indications/Uses
HRT for problems due to oestrogen deficiency linked to menopause. Prevention of post-menopausal osteoporosis for women w/ increased risk of fracture & showing intolerance or contraindication to other treatments employed in the prevention of osteoporosis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Apply 2.5 g (1 graduated measure) over large surface of skin (on the arms, upper part of the bottom & thighs, lower part of the abdomen, lumbar region) daily for 24-28 days per mth.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. History or current venous or arterial thromboembolic diseases (phlebitis, pulmonary embolism, angina pectoris, MI, cerebral vascular incidents); breast, uterine or any other oestrogen-dependent cancer; endometrial hyperplasia; undiagnosed vag bleeding; certain liver illnesses; porphyria.
Special Precautions
Not to be applied to the breasts or mucous membranes. Increased risk of thromboembolic disease, breast or uterine cancer & CV incident or cerebral vascular problem. HTN, diabetes, endometriosis, uterine fibroma, hepatic or biliary problems, epilepsy, migraines or severe headaches, renal or cardiac otospongiosis. Prolonged bed rest or planned surgery. Bleeding. Perform medical exam prior to & periodically in the course of treatment. Carry out regular clinical exam of the breasts especially in cases of family history of breast cancer or if patient has cysts or lumps in the breasts. Not to be taken during pregnancy or lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Breast tension; genital bleedings; abdominal pain & swelling; nausea; headaches; painful periods; vag discharge.
Drug Interactions
Carbamazepine, oxcarbazepine, phenobarb, phenytoin, rifabutin, rifampicin, ritonavir, nelfinavir, nevirapine, efavirenz or St. John's wort prep.
