Ferrous fumarate 162 mg, folic acid 750 mcg, cyanocobalamin 10 mcg
Indications/Uses
Prevention & treatment of Fe deficiency anemia in pregnancy, nursing & menstruation. Chronic or acute blood loss, dietary restriction, metabolic disease & post-surgical convalescence.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Hemochromatosis, hemosiderosis & non-iron deficiency anemia. History of nephrolithiasis, hyperoxaluria, oxalate dysbolism & thalassemia. Avoid large doses of vit C (>1 g/day). G6PD deficiency. Infants <12 mth.
Special Precautions
Prolonged treatment w/ high doses. GI diseases eg peptic ulcer, chronic ulcerative colitis, localized colitis. Childn <6 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Transient constipation, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, dark stools, bellyache. High doses of vit C may cause hyperoxaluria, nausea, vomiting, heartburn, abdominal cramps, fatigue, flushing, headache, insomnia, sleepiness; diarrhea.
Drug Interactions
Risk of hyperkalemia w/ antialdosterone agent or triamterene. Avoid use w/ phosphates, Ca salts, oral tetracyclines, antacids, levodopa. Decreased Fe absorption w/ tannin-containing products (eg green tea, red tea).
