Dihydrocodeine tartrate
Indications/Uses
Relief of moderate to severe pain.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 1 tab every 4-6 hr. Childn 4-12 yr 0.5-1 mg/kg every 4-6 hr.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take w/ or after meals.
Contraindications
Resp depression, obstructive airways disease.
Special Precautions
Discontinue use if serotonin syndrome is suspected. Not to be used during asthma attack. Hypothyroidism; adrenal insufficiency. Long-term use. Avoid alcohol use. Concomitant use w/ serotonergic drugs, benzodiazepines. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Chronic hepatic disease, renal insufficiency. Pregnancy. Not to be used during lactation. Not recommended in childn <4 yr. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Serotonin syndrome; adrenal insufficiency; low libido, impotence, erectile dysfunction, amenorrhea, infertility; reduced fertility.
Drug Interactions
Serotonin syndrome w/ serotonergic drugs eg, SSRIs, SNRIs, TCAs, triptans, 5-HT3 receptor antagonists, mirtazapine, trazodone, tramadol, MAOIs. Additive pharmacologic effect w/ benzodiazepines.
