Indications/Uses
Dosage/Direction for Use
Treatment of flu Initiate w/in 1st or 2nd day of symptom onset. Adult & adolescent ≥13 yr 75 mg bd for 5 days. Childn >40 kg 75 mg bd. Renal impairment CrCl 10-30 mL/min Reduced to 75 mg once daily for 5 days. Prophylaxis of flu Post exposure: Adult & adolescent ≥13 yr 75 mg once daily for 10 days. Childn >40 kg 75 mg once daily. Renal impairment CrCl 10-30 mL/min Reduced to 75 mg every other day.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Convulsion & delirium-like neuropsychiatric events. Monitor signs of abnormal behavior. Renal impairment (CrCl ≤30 mL/min). Hepatic impairment. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <1 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea & vomiting. Abdominal pain, headache; diarrhoea, bronchitis, dizziness & insomnia; aches & pains, rhinorrhea, dyspepsia & URTI; otitis media, asthma, epistaxis, pneumonia, ear disorder, sinusitis, bronchitis, conjunctivitis, dermatitis, lymphadenopathy & tympanic membrane disorder.
Drug Interactions
Approx 2-fold increased exposure w/ probenecid.
