Description
Active Ingredients: Liquid Silicone (97%), Vitamin C, Emu Oil and Squalane.
Features: 97% Liquid Silicone; Best alternative to silicone sheeting available; Great for facial scars (non-comedogenic); Safe for use on children; Dries clear with no sticky residue.
Action
RejuvaSil is a topical liquid silicone gel with Emu Oil (an anti-inflammatory), Squalane (a moisturizer), and Vitamin C (for scar discoloration) that is used to improve the appearance of surgical and traumatic scars (including normal post op scars, hypertrophic scars and keloid scars) and burns. It is applied to clean dry scar up to 3 times daily. The mechanism of action includes hydration and occlusion. RejuvaSil dries to a thin semi-occlusive film on the skin.
Cyclomethicone and Dimethicone Cross Polymer (silicones in liquid form) create a hydrated occluded environment decreases capillary activity by reducing fibroblast induced collagen deposition and scar hypertrophy decreasing hyperemia minimizes fibroblast production of collagen and promotes wound flattening.
Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate is a very stable, oil-soluble Vitamin C ester which has anti-oxidant activity, inhibiting lipid peroxidation. Studies have shown Vitamin C to be a clarifying and brightening agent to the skin by inhibiting melanogenesis (the production of pigment) thereby promoting a more even skin tone. Unlike ascorbic acid, it will not exfoliate or irritate skin. For scars it basically has been shown to reduce redness.
Emu Oil is approximately 70% unsaturated fatty acids. The largest component is oleic acid - a mono-unsaturated fatty acid. Emu oil also contains about 20% linolenic (Omega 6) acid and 1-2% linolenic (Omega 3) acid. There is some evidence to suggest that the oil may have medicinal benefit. Emu oil has been shown in studies to aid in reducing scar formation in healed burn wounds, due to its strong anti-inflammatory properties. Emu oil is a complete neutral lipid, since emu oil lacks phospholipid, making it highly penetrating to the skin.
Squalane is used as a natural moisturizer and anti-oxidant. It penetrates the skin quickly, does not leave a greasy feeling on the skin and blends well with other oils and vitamins. Squalane aids in softening the scar tissue resulting in a softer scar.
Indications/Uses
Silicone is the number one preferred method of scar management by plastic surgeons to support the healing and prevention of scars (i.e. hypertrophic scars, surgical scars, burn scars, and scars caused by trauma and accidents). Regular application of silicone gel maintains the barrier provided by silicone sheeting, and helps relieve itchiness and discomfort associated with the scar.
RejûvaSil Silicone Scar Gel is clinically formulated to soften and flatten raised scarring. The clear and odorless silicone gel formula dries fast and forms a water-resistant barrier on the scar. This creates a hydrated occluded environment which decreases capillary activity by reducing fibroblast-induced collagen deposition and scar hypertrophy, decreases hyperemia, minimizes fibroblast production of collagen, and promotes wound flattening.
RejûvaSil Silicone Scar Gel may be used in conjunction with other scar treatment modalities, to help in the prevention of the formation of hypertrophic and keloidal scars.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Apply the gel to clean and dry scars, and massage gently. Use 2-3 times daily. The shortest recommended application is 30 days, large areas or older scars may require more time.
