Indications/Uses

Nasal & upper resp tract congestion, common cold, acute sinusitis, allergic rhinitis.

Dosage/Direction for Use

Tab Adult 1 tab tds. Syr Adult 1 tsp 6 hrly tds. Childn 6-12 yr ½ tsp 6 hrly tds.

Overdosage

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity. Not to be used for lower resp tract symptoms. Severe HTN & CAD. Concomitant use w/ MAOIs.

Special Precautions

Not to be used for lower resp tract symptoms. HTN, hyperthyroidism, DM, CV disease; narrow-angle glaucoma, stenosing peptic ulcer, pyloroduodenal obstruction, symptomatic prostatic hypertrophy, bladder neck obstruction. May affect ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy & lactation. Not recommended in childn <2 yr. Childn 2-6 yr. Elderly >60 yr.

Adverse Reactions

Urticaria, drug rash, anaphylactic shock, photosensitivity, excessive perspiration, chills, mouth, nose & throat dryness; hypotension, headache, palpitation, tachycardia, extrasystoles; hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, agranulocytosis; nervous system disorders; epigastric distress, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation; urinary frequency & retention, difficult urination; bronchial secretions thickening, chest tightness, wheezing, nasal stuffiness.

Drug Interactions

Additive effects w/ alcohol & other CNS depressants. Prolonged & intensified anticholinergic effects & potentiated sympathomimetic pressor effects by MAOIs. Reduced antihypertensive effects of methyldopa, mecamylamine, reserpine, veratrum alkaloids.
