Isoxsuprine is used to treat peripheral vascular diseases or the narrowing or blockage of arteries outside of the heart and brain. Examples of peripheral vascular diseases treated by Isoxsuprine are Buerger's disease and Raynaud's disease.
This medicine may also be used to relieve symptoms of cerebrovascular insufficiency (blockage of one or more arteries that supplies blood to the brain) such as dizziness, numbness or weakness of limbs, blurred vsion, and confusion.
This medicine may be used to treat other conditions as decided by your doctor.
Take Isoxsuprine exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more than instructed by your doctor.
This medicine may be taken with or without food. To avoid stomach discomfort, you may take it with meals, milk or antacid.
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.
DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.
If you often forget to take your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.
Do not take this medicine if you have an arterial bleeding as this medicine may not be suitable for you.
Isoxsuprine should not be taken immediately after (post partum) child birth.
Let your doctor know if you are pregnant.
Isoxsuprine may cause dizziness. If affected, do not drive or take part in any activity in which you need to be alert.
Other side effects may include any of the following: nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, flushing, palpitations, chest pain, rash.
Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any of these medicines:
- medicines for depression e.g. duloxetine
- medicines for behaviour, mood or mental disorder e.g. risperidone
- medicines for parkinsons disease (brain disorder affecting movement) e.g. levodopa
- medicines for angina (chest pain) e.g. nicorandil
- medicines for epilepsy (seizures or fits) e.g. phenobarbital
This list does not include all medicines that may interact with Isoxsuprine.
Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
Avoid alcohol.
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.
Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
