Crystalline glucosamine sulphate
Indications/Uses
Dosage/Direction for Use
Initially 1 cap tds or 1 sachet once daily for at least 3 mth. Maintenance: 1 cap bd or 1 sachet once daily.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Not to be given to patients allergic to shellfish. Powd for oral soln: Phenylketonuria.
Special Precautions
Exclude presence of other joint conditions/diseases. Closely monitor blood glucose levels in patients w/ higher HbA1c levels or taking insulin. Severe hepatic or renal insufficiency. Avoid use during 1st trimester of pregnancy. Lactation. Avoid use in childn. Powd for oral soln: Diabetes.
Adverse Reactions
Peripheral oedema, tachycardia; skin reactions eg, erythema, pruritus.
Drug Interactions
Impaired insulin secretion. Increased insulin resistance. Affected glucose tolerance. Reduced antidiabetic effects of acarbose, acetohexamide, chlorpropamide, glipizide, glyburide, metformin, miglitol, pioglitazone, repaglinide, rosiglitazone, glimepiride, tolbutamide, troglitazone. Reduced effectiveness of doxorubicin, etoposide, teniposide. Potentiated anticoagulant effects of warfarin.
