DermAid contains dissolved hydrocortisone 0.5% for improved effectiveness in a special occlusive cream base. It is paraben-, lanolin- and chlorocresol-free with a pH 5.
Anti-inflammatory, antipruritic topical corticosteroid.
For the relief of non-infected dermatitis or eczema, itching rashes of irritant or allergic contact dermatitis, itching and itching vulval and anal areas.
Apply a small amount gently to the affected area 1 to 3 times daily.
Known sensitivity to any of the ingredients; viral skin infections including vaccinia, chicken pox and herpes; fungal skin infections such as thrush, tinea and ringworm; bacterial skin infections such as impetigo and boils; tuberculosis of the skin and syphilitic skin disorders.
Avoid eyes. Do not use on infected skin, acne or viral diseases of the skin, such as cold sores and chicken pox, under covered dressings or on children under 2 years except under medical supervision. If condition persists more than 7 days, discontinue use and seek medical advice. If irritation occurs, discontinue use.
Adjunct Therapy: As soap may irritate the skin, cleanse with a soap alternative eg, Pinetarsol Gel or QV Gentle Wash. As prolonged use is not advisable, use alternatives eg, Egoderm Ointment (for soothing effect), or Egoderm Cream (for emollient effect if the skin is dry) for continued control if long-term therapy is required. To help prevent recurrence, use QV cream.
Use in pregnancy & lactation: Category A drugs are those which have been taken by a large number of pregnant women and women of child-bearing age without any proven increase in the frequency of malformations or other direct or indirect harmful effects on the foetus having been observed. DermAid 0.5% Cream should not be applied to breasts before breast feeding.
Use in infants: Do not use on children under 2 years old unless recommended by a doctor.

After application, a slight stinging sensation may occasionally be
noticed. This transient symptom is most likely to disappear after several
applications. Other side effects may include itching, redness,
allergy and thinning of the skin.
Intolerance to the occlusive dressing (miliary eruptions,
folliculitis) may be observed, as with other corticosteroids. In such cases,
the use of an occlusive dressing should be discontinued. The use of the steroid
may also need to be reduced or discontinued, depending on the severity of the
reaction.
In long-term treatment of extensive skin areas with occlusive
dressing, one should bear in mind the possibility of inhibition of adrenal
function. Therefore, adrenal function should be monitored under these
circumstances.
