Sulbactam Na 500 mg, cefoperazone Na 500 mg
Indications/Uses
Upper & lower resp tract infection & UTI, peritonitis, cholecystitis, cholangitis, septicemia, meningitis, skin & soft tissue, bone & joint infections, pelvic inflammatory disease, endometritis, gonorrhea & other genital tract infections.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IV/IM Adult 2-4 g daily in equally divided doses every 12 hr. Severe infection May be increased to 8 g daily. Childn 40-80 mg/kg daily in equally divided doses every 6-12 hr. Serious or refractory infections May be increased to 160 mg/kg daily. Max: Sulbactam 4 g daily. CrCl 15-30 mL/min Max: Sulbactam 1 g every 12 hr, <15 mL/min Max: 500 mg every 12 hr.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to penicillins, cephalosporins, cefoperazone & sulbactam.
Special Precautions
Discontinue use if allergic reaction occurs. Vit K deficiency eg, patients w/ poor diet, malabsorption states (eg, cystic fibrosis), prolonged IV alimentation regimen, patients receiving anticoagulant. Overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms. Periodically check organ system dysfunction during extended therapy. Monitor prothrombin time. Renal dysfunction. Severe biliary obstruction &/or hepatic disease or coexistent renal dysfunction. Pregnancy & lactation. Premature infants or neonates.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, vomiting, loose stool, pseudomembranous colitis; maculopapular rash, urticaria; hypotension; neutropenia, decreased neutrophil, Hb or hematocrit; transient eosinophilia, thrombocytopenia, hypoprothrombinemia; headache, fever, inj pain, chills; transient elevations of LFT, SGOT, SGPT, alkaline phosphatase, bilirubin; transient pain, phlebitis.
Drug Interactions
Avoid use w/ alcohol- or ethanol-containing soln. Not to be mixed directly w/ aminoglycosides soln. False +ve urine glucose reaction w/ Benedict's or Fehling's soln.
