Brinzolamide
Indications/Uses
Elevated IOP in ocular HTN or open-angle glaucoma.
Dosage/Direction for Use
1 drop into conjunctival sac of affected eye bd. Max: Not to exceed 1 drop tds.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to brinzolamide or sulphonamides. Hyperchloraemic acidosis. Severe renal impairment.
Special Precautions
Discontinue use if signs of serious reactions or hypersensitivity occur. Not recommended in narrow-angle glaucoma. Metabolic acidosis. Patients w/ pseudoexfoliative or pigmentary glaucoma, compromised corneas (eg, DM or corneal dystrophies); low endothelial cell count; significant renal tubular immaturity or abnormalities. May cause eye irritation due to benzalkonium Cl. Remove contact lens prior to application & wait at least 15 min before reinsertion. Administer at least 5 min apart if >1 topical ophth medicinal product is used. Not recommended to use w/ another carbonic anhydrase inhibitors. May affect ability to drive & use machines. Not recommended in hepatic impairment. Renal impairment. Women of childbearing potential should use effective contraception. Not recommended during pregnancy. Lactation. Not recommended in infants, childn & adolescents <18 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Blurred vision, eye irritation & pain, foreign body sensation in eyes, ocular hyperaemia; dysgeusia.
Drug Interactions
Acid-base disturbances w/ oral carbonic anhydrase inhibitor. Inhibited metabolism by CYP3A4 inhibitors eg, ketoconazole, itraconazole, clotrimazole, ritonavir, troleandomycin.
