Amphotericin B (lipid complex)
Indications/Uses
Severe systemic &/or deep mycoses in cases where toxicity or renal failure precludes use of conventional amphotericin B in effective doses & where prior systemic antifungal therapy has failed. Disseminated candidiasis & aspergillosis; severely neutropenic patients.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn 5 mg/kg single IV infusion.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Not intended for common, clinically inapparent fungal diseases diagnosed only by skin tests or serological determinations. Pre-existing renal disease, monitor renal function prior to & at least once wkly during therapy; administer after completion of dialysis in patients undergoing dialysis. Regularly monitor serum K & Mg levels. Not to be diluted w/ saline soln or mix w/ other drugs or electrolytes. Not to be used w/ in-line filter. Concomitant use w/ hepatotoxic drugs. May affect ability to drive & use machines. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Chills, fever, nausea, vomiting; rigors, anaphylactoid reactions eg, hypotension, tachycardia bronchospasm, dyspnoea, hypoxia, hyperventilation.
Drug Interactions
Monitor renal function w/ concomitant nephrotoxic drugs. Monitor renal & haematologic function w/ concomitant zidovudine. Enhanced toxicity of flucytosine.
