Indications/Uses
Reduction of elevated IOP in patients w/ open-angle glaucoma, chronic angle-closure glaucoma & ocular HTN who are intolerant of other IOP lowering medications or insufficiently responsive to other IOP lowering medications.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult including the elderly 1 eye drop in the affected eye(s) once daily.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Close monitoring is required w/ frequent or prolonged use in dry eye patients, or in conditions where cornea is compromised. Do not wear contact lens if eyes are red. Not for the treatment of contact lens related irritation. Wait at least 10 min after instilling Xalatan before inserting the contact lens in patients who wear soft contact lenses & whose eyes are not red. Permanent heterochromia can happen. Treatment may be stopped if increased iris pigmentation ensues. There is no experience in inflammatory, neovascular, angle-closure or congenital glaucoma, open-angle glaucoma of pseudophakic patients, pigmentary glaucoma, acute attacks of closed-angle glaucoma, Macular edema. Contact lenses should be removed before instillation of the eye drops & reinsert after 15 min. Not to be administered while wearing contact lenses. Patients w/ history of herpetic keratitis. Avoid in cases of active herpes simplex keratitis. Transient blurring of vision may impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Renal or hepatic impairment. Pregnancy & lactation. Not recommended for use in childn.
Adverse Reactions
Eye irritation (burning, grittiness, itching, stinging & foreign body sensation), eye pain, eyelash & vellus hair changes of the eyelid (increased length, thickness, pigmentation & number of eyelashes), ocular hyperaemia, iris hyperpigmentation, blepharitis, conjunctivitis, nausea, vomiting.
Drug Interactions
Additive effects to β-adrenergic antagonists, adrenergic agonists, carbonic anhydrase inhibitors & cholinergic agonists. Use of ≥2 prostaglandin, prostaglandin analogs or prostaglandin derivatives is not recommended.
