Amoxicillin trihydrate
Indications/Uses
Upper & lower resp tract infections, GUT, GIT infections, gonorrhea, septicaemia, peritonitis, bacterial endocarditis, osteomyelitis, meningitis, UTI, sepsis, skin & soft tissue infection.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 250-500 mg 3-4 times daily. Childn 20-40 mg/kg/day in 3-4 equally divided doses. Typhoid & paratyphoid fever Adult 4 g daily. Childn 100 mg/kg/day. To be taken in divided doses for 14-21 days.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals for better absorption & to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to penicillins. Infectious mononucleosis.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins. Lymphatic leukemia. Renal or hepatic impairment.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances; fever, urticaria, eruption, blood disorders; superinfection; rarely, rise in SGOT, shock symptoms, stomatitis, colitis, avitaminosis.
Drug Interactions
Allopurinol increases incidence of skin rashes. Reduces effectiveness of OC. Probenecid retards renal excretion.
