Domperidone
Indications/Uses
Acute nausea & vomiting. Functional dyspepsia. Nausea & vomiting caused by levodopa & bromocriptine administration for >12 wk.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Childn 0.2-0.4 mg/kg 4-8 hrly. Functional dyspepsia Adult & elderly 10-20 mg 3 times daily or 10-20 mg once before bedtime, if necessary. Max duration: 12 wk. Nausea & vomiting Adult & elderly 10-20 mg 4-8 hrly.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: For chemotherapy & RT-induced nausea & vomiting in childn: Take 15-30 min before meals & at bedtime.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Childn (except for prevention of nausea & vomiting caused by cancer chemotherapy & irradiation).
Special Precautions
Prolonged use. Liver function impairment & renal insufficiency. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Sedation, extrapyramidal reactions, dystonic Parkisonism, tardive dyskinesia, increased serum prolactin conc, dry mouth, headache, diarrhea, skin rash, thirst, anxiety, urticaria.
Drug Interactions
Reduces hypoprolactinemia effect of bromocriptine. Reduced bioavailability of domperidone w/ concomitant use of muscarinic anticholinergic & opioid analgesics, antacids.
