Special Precautions
Long term treatment may decrease body's stamina against infectious diseases, and may mask some signs of infection.
Not recommended in pregnant women and nursing mothers, except if clearly needed.
Administration of glucocorticoid in children should be avoided because the drugs can retard bone growth.
Hypertension may occur during adrenocorticoid therapy in geriatric patient.
While on Methylprednisolone therapy, patient should not receive vaccines administration.
Increased Methylprednisolone dosage is indicated for patients with stress condition.
Prolonged use Methylprednisolone may produce subcapsular cataracts, glaucoma, and may enhance the establishment of secondary ocular infections due to fungi or viruses.
Patient with prolonged treatment of glucocorticoid should be ophthalmologic control every 3 months.
If corticosteroids are indicated in patients with latent tuberculosis or tuberculin reactivity, close observation is necessary as reactivation of the disease may occur. During prolonged corticosteroid therapy, these patients should receive chemoprophylaxis.
Steroids should be used with caution in nonspecific ulcerative colitis, osteoporosis, patient with history of psychosis, amubiasis, glaucoma, and viral infection.
Administration of Methylprednisolone in children should be avoided except if clearly needed.
If Methylprednisolone should be discontinued (after therapy more than 1 - 2 weeks), it is recommended that it be withdrawn gradually.
