Lincomycin HCl
Indications/Uses
Infection due to susceptible strains of Staph, Strep & pneumococci. For penicillin-alergic patients or where penicillin therapy is inappropriate.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Severe infection due to susceptible organisms Adult 500 mg 3 times daily (every 8 hr) orally. Childn >1 mth 30 mg/kg daily in 3-4 divided doses. More severe infection Adult 500 mg 4 times daily (every 6 hr) orally. Childn 60 mg/kg daily in 3-4 divided doses. In cases of β-hemolytic streptococcal infections, treatment should be continued for at least 10 days.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take 1 hr before or 2 hr after meals w/ a full glass of water.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to lincomycin or clindamycin.
Special Precautions
Not for the treatment of minor bacterial or viral infections. History of asthma or significant allergies. GI disease especially colitis. Periodic liver & renal function & blood counts should be performed during prolonged therapy. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances, haematopoietic effects, pruritus, rash, liver jaundice, renal dysfunction.
