Severe infection due to susceptible organismsAdult 500 mg 3 times daily (every 8 hr) orally. Childn >1 mth 30 mg/kg daily in 3-4 divided doses. More severe infectionAdult 500 mg 4 times daily (every 6 hr) orally. Childn 60 mg/kg daily in 3-4 divided doses. In cases of β-hemolytic streptococcal infections, treatment should be continued for at least 10 days.
Not for the treatment of minor bacterial or viral infections. History of asthma or significant allergies. GI disease especially colitis. Periodic liver & renal function & blood counts should be performed during prolonged therapy. Pregnancy & lactation.
