Contents
Divalproex sodium.
Description
Each enteric coated tablet contains: Divalproex Sodium equivalent to Valproic Acid 250 mg.
Ikalep syrup contains: Divalproex Sodium equivalent to Valproic acid 250 mg/5 mL.
Indications/Uses
Used for petit mal epilepsy type (absence of simple and complex seizure).
Enhance GABA-suppressing effect of stimulus sensitivity of the nerve cells.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Initial dose 15 mg/kg BW/day. Weekly dose may be increased 5-10 mg/kg BW/day, the recommended maximum dose 60 mg/kg BW/day. When doses exceeding 250 mg/day given in divided dose.
Contraindications
Pregnant woman.
Patients with impaired liver functions.
Patients with hypersensitivity to Divalproex Sodium.
Special Precautions
Do not drive a motor-car or operate heavy machinery.
Use with caution in nursing mothers because Divalproex Sodium is excreted through breast milk.
Use with caution in children because it can cause fatal hepatotoxicity.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramp, constipation, heartburn.
Sedation, tremor, headache, sleepy, dizziness, alopecia.
Thrombocytopenia, hyperammonemia, depression, psychosis.
Drug Interactions
Oral anticoagulant Acetyl Salicylic Acid.
Anti epileptic drugs such as Carbamazepine, Phenobarbital, Phenytoin decrease the concentration of Divalproex Sodium in serum, particularly in children.

Store in a dry place below 30°C.
