Elobixibat
Indications/Uses
Chronic constipation (except for constipation associated w/ organic diseases).
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 10 mg once daily. Max dose: 15 mg daily.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Patients w/ documented intestinal obstruction associated w/ tumor or hernia or suspicion of such conditions.
Special Precautions
Drug- & disease-induced constipations. Consider dose reduction, drug w/drawal, or discontinuation if abdominal pain or diarrhoea occurs. Periodically assess the need for suspended or continued therapy. Serious liver disorder (eg, biliary obstruction or reduced bile acid secretion). Pregnant women & women who may possibly be pregnant. Discontinue breastfeeding during treatment. Low birth wt infants, neonate, nursing infants, infants or ped patients. Reduce dose in the elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Abdominal pain, diarrhea. Abnormal hepatic function (increased ALT, AST, γ-GTP, A1-P, LAP); dizziness; upper or lower abdominal pain, abdominal distension or discomfort, nausea, soft faeces; anaemia; increased CK.
Drug Interactions
May interfere w/ reabsorption of bile acid prep (eg, ursodeoxycholic acid, chenodeoxycholic acid). May attenuate the effects w/ Al-containing antacids (eg, sucralfate hydrate, aldioxa), cholestyramine & colestimide. May elevate & enhance effects of digoxin, dabigatran etexilate, methanesulfonate. May decrease blood levels & effects of midazolam.
